DOROTHY EVELYN SLIDDERS
October 18, 1916 - May 12, 2019

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Dorothy Slidders on May 12, 2019.
She is lovingly remembered by her son John (Nancy), daughter Judy Hornsby (Lloyd); grandchildren Sean, Jason, Marla (Aaron), Christy (Wendy), and her five great-grandchildren, Kai, Noah, Elliot, Chloe and Charlotte. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Jack Slidders in 1988 and siblings, Jean MacAuley (Ken), Helen Doughie (Malcolm) and Sydney Hughes (Greta).
Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on October 18, 1916. She was well known as a caregiver, starting at a young age and continued throughout her lifetime. Mom and Dad were married at St. Cuthbert's Church on September 27, 1941. Their home on Minto Street was a welcoming place for all. The family enjoyed going to Assiniboine Park for picnics with egg salad sandwiches and Kool-Aid. She was a talented, self-taught knitter and her beautiful afghans kept all of us warm at night. She curled for many years at Valour Road Curling Club and loved watching it on TV, cheering on her favourite teams. Dorothy enjoyed helping out with the senior luncheons at the hall of St. Patrick and St. Jude's Church and met many new friends when she joined St. Andrews Woodhaven Church. Mom enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for the family and always picked out dessert before deciding on the main course. On summer nights, Gram was often found with a cup of tea in her gazebo. We will remember her for being loving, hard-working and going out of her way to do kind things for others.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Donwood Manor for their kindness and exceptional care.
In keeping with Mom's wishes, no service will take place.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, Donwood Manor Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Love you forever Gram.

  • Our condolences to Judy and John & co. Dot was a great neighbour - always a pleasure to visit. We really appreciated her speaking with our history club about life in Winnipeg through the years.
