NETTIE RODECK
(nee MAKICHUK)
March 6, 1933 - May 16, 2019

Peacefully, with her family by her side, Nettie Rodeck passed away at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 86.
Nettie will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 62 years, Tom; her brother John Makichuk, her many nieces, nephews, good friends and neighbours.
Nettie was born in the RM of Mossey River, spent her early years in Portage la Prairie and then settled in Winnipeg.
She was predeceased by her parents, Effie and Samuel; and by her older siblings. She was also predeceased, and grateful, for her stepmother Annie.
Nettie met Tom in 1955 while both were working for the T. Eaton Co. They quickly became inseparable and were married in 1956. Not only did they create a loving home together, they both continued working at Eaton's for the next 40 plus years.
Nettie was a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, past president of both the parish and Catholic Women's League. Nettie was a tireless volunteer and never hesitated to offer assistance.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at both the Seven Oaks General Hospital and the Grace General Hospital. A special thank you to family and friends who supported Tom and Nettie in these past couple months.
In keeping with Nettie's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Nettie's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
Prayers will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 8:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m., both at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., with Father Dymtro Dnistrian officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery.

  • We’ve lost one of the greats. Few in life have had a longer or more lasting influence. If only to hear her laugh - or taste her cooking - just one more time. Winnipeg will never be the same again. Together with our honourable Uncle Tom, we mourn the loss of our legendary Auntie Nettie. - Posted by: Tom & Jean Makichuk (Nephew & Niece, Kanata, Ontario) on: May 22, 2019
