Eugene Joseph Nuytten of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, at St. Boniface Hospital on May 27, 2019.
Eugene, beloved son of Harry and Mary (Bultinck) Nuytten, was born on September 25, 1928. He married Esther Irene Gysel May 14, 1949 at Holy Rosary Church in Winnipeg.
He joined the St. Boniface Fire Department that same year and spent 40 years as a firefighter until his retirement as a Deputy Chief in 1989.
Throughout his life he enjoyed many happy times with friends and family at the cottage, at his winter home in Texas and in and around his home in Norwood, and later at the condo in Fort Garry. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and many a garage, and deck project was completed with his knowledge and resourcefulness.
Eugene was predeceased by his three sisters, Margaret (Omar) Runnells, Roberta (Bob) Muller and Lillian (Marcien) Chamberlain. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Irene, sons, Ernie (Regine, Valerie), and Geoff (Valerie), and daughters, Louise (Bernie) and Isla (Doug), 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg. Refreshments to follow.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund.

Eugene will remain one of the finest gentlemen and one of the best firefighters that it has been my privilege to work with at Station 1 during our careers. To Irene and family...mine and all of us who worked with Gene, many with whom he is having coffee with today, our sincerest condolences.
