Dorothy was born October 20, 1929, at home in Hnausa to James and Sigga Page. She lived in Hnausa and then Winnipeg. She worked as an operator for MTS prior to her marriage to Wally in 1951. They lived in Winnipeg, Gimli, Duluth and Chicago before returning to Riverton in 1963 at which time they built their home on the banks of the Icelandic River. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Djorfund Ladies Aid and an active member of the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church Alter Guild until the age of 88.
Dorothy's life revolved around her family, first her husband, three sons and daughter and then her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She took pride in her garden and flower beds and always made pickles and baked goodies. Every Christmas we were supplied with a wide variety of baking which we eagerly awaited each year. She always made sure she had an endless supply of cookies and pink juice (cream soda) for the grandchildren and
great- grandchildren when they stopped for a visit. She took great pride in each and every one of their accomplishments and, in turn, they were all proud to say she was THEIR Nana.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kim Sigurdson for her devotion to Dorothy - she was not just her hairdresser but a beloved friend who took care of her until the very end. We would also like to thank the excellent staff at Arborg Personal Care Home for making Dorothy part of their family for the past year.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church.
