JOE YVON
March 3, 1922 - June 23, 2019

It is with sadness we say goodbye to Joe Yvon, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Joe was predeceased by his siblings, Yvonne, Louis, and his son Rene. He leaves to mourn him his grandchildren, Cherun Kyryliuk (Carl) and Joshua Yvon (Lisa), great-grandchildren, Joshua Hamm, Tyler Hamm, Stefanie Yvon, Nolan Hamm, Zoey Fournier, Landyn Yvon and Parker Yvon; his brother Jerry Yvon, sister Irene Fournier, and many nephews and nieces.
Joe knew and loved hard work, first working cutting and hauling lumber in Manitoba and in Ontario, also doing some farming in St. Labre. He went on to work in road construction for Nelson River where he also worked as a machinist. He tried to retire at 65 but became bored so went back to road construction. When the "youngsters" started telling him what to do, he decided 85 was a good age to retire.
In mid-life he discovered travel and had been to Hawaii, Cuba, the Holy Land, Australia, Thailand, Mexico and Europe. He visited every continent except Antarctica.
His health always was important to him. Even at 97 his physique was that of a man 20 years younger.
Joe was a man of few words, with a good wit, strong opinions, blessed with good health for most of his life. A generous man, his family very important to him, described as having a heart of gold, his Catholic faith important to him. He had a life well lived.
Thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital, especially Kelly and Dr. A. Janua, for their care and compassion.
Viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 4 at the St. Labre Roman Catholic Church, with eulogy at 1:45 p.m., followed by the Funeral Mass. Burial will take place immediately afterward at St. Labre Roman Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Joe may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
