Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Mr. Partridge was the only person who ever had the guts to question my questionable choice of post-secondary study and I should have listened to him. He taught me, my brother and my mother, we all remember him fondly. Xo - Posted by: Claire Chapman (Student) on: Jan 01, 2022

  • Mr. Partridge, may have single handedly saved my high school education. Thank you, you were a pleasant person, RIP - Posted by: Ross Peden (STudent ) on: Apr 13, 2021

  • Ruth, I was so sorry to hear of Jim's sudden passing. Our sincere condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Although we never met Jim, the condolences from others makes you wish you had met him. Take care, Judy and Ken Hildebrand - Posted by: Judy Hildebrand (friend to Ruth as part of a University of Manitoba lunch group) on: Oct 01, 2019

  • We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Partridge. He was our English teacher at Dakota Collegiate. We really enjoyed his classes and have very fond memories of his quick wit and friendly personality. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Gordon and Linda Puttaert (former students at Dakota Collegiate 1967- 1968) on: Sep 30, 2019

  • Jim Partridge was one of the finest jazz pianists I've ever met. He made the great standards stand out and sound like they were intended to be heard and felt. His subtle and nuanced playing brought the very soul of the music to life. His sense of humour was infectious and so funny. He was a wonderful man and it was not only a privilege to know Jim, but to record and produce his music with the fabulous Colleen Morrison, as well as his own jazz trio. Farewell, brave Voyager. - Posted by: Ervin Bartha (Friend, recording engineer/producer) on: Sep 28, 2019

  • A one of a kind English teacher and an incredible wit, not to mention an absolute master of trivia (to the point of being a national champion -- twice, if I remember correctly). So sorry to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Andrew Cunningham (Student 1979-82) on: Sep 28, 2019

  • I will always remember “Mr Partridge” for his incredible wit and remarkable talent as a pianist! I loved, during holiday seasons, listening to him play for those who were gathered. RIP Mr Partridge and share your talents with those who have already left us. To Mrs Partridge, Chris and Leslie and Family, you now have your own personal angel looking down upon you. - Posted by: Jennifer Adams (Long time friend) on: Sep 27, 2019

  • Jim was an amazing teacher who was highly respected and loved his students as well as his colleagues. I had the privilege of being on staff at Dakota with Jim. He, along with Ruth, accompanied me on a student study tour of Russia in 1990 with 20 students. His wit and knowledge helped make the excursion a great experience for the group. His close friends will never forget the 'roasts' that Jim delivered at their retirements. No doubt, some of them kept postponing their retirements in order to be spared this ordeal. I have nothing but fond memories of one of the most interesting colleagues I have had the pleasure of teaching with and know he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. My sincere thoughts go out to Ruth and family. - Posted by: Wayne Enns (teaching colleague at Dakota Collegiate) on: Sep 27, 2019

  • Great memories from teenagers on! Goodbye Jim, RIP and play on! - Posted by: Owen Clark (Friend and musical colleague) on: Sep 26, 2019

  • Jim was my teacher many years ago and he was an amazing person. Funny, intellectual and one of my favourites growing up. I am so sorry for your loss. He was well loved by his students. - Posted by: Wendy Hart (Student 1973) on: Sep 26, 2019
