ASSUNTA MARIA MASI
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Giovanni (2013); daughter Ninetta (2010); twin great-grandsons, Oli and Poly, and all of her 10 siblings. To forever cherish her memory, Mom leaves her children, Mary (Tom) Scerbo, Tony (Teresa), Raphael (Debbie) and her son-in-law Frank (Josie) Caligiuri; her 14 grandchildren: Sandy (Mark), Michael, Chris (Elena), Jennifer (Jeff), Tommy (Connie), Robbie (Rachelle), Dina (Peter), Gianni (Tash), Alex, Gabby, Sergio, Nikki, Kristina, and Gino; and her 13 great-grandchildren: John, Caterina, Julia, Isabella, Nia, Selenna, Amalia, Sabrina, Cali, Matteo, Kaleb, Francesco and Valencia; sister-in-law Angela Borelli, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends in Canada and Italy.
Mom was born February 14, 1922, in Sersale, Italy. She was married in 1947 and lived in Amato, Italy until immigrating to Canada in 1953. Mom and Dad raised four children and hosted countless family gatherings in their Transcona home, as well as their cottage in Gimli. Nonna was a nurturing, caring, and generous person who was always preparing meals and baking for family and friends. You never left their house without something - whether it was all kinds of foods, produce from their large garden, or a piece of mended clothing. Nonna retired after working 33 years in a sewing factory. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy as each one was always made to feel they were her favourite.
Mom was a healthy energetic person who survived cancer at the age of 86. Even in her late 80s she maintained a full life and was able to care for her ailing husband. Mom enjoyed her stay with the many friends at Villa Nova.
The family wishes to thank the staff and care givers at Misericordia Hospital and Misericordia Place for the wonderful care and compassion shown while she was with them.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue with Fr. Sam Argenziano the Celebrant. Condolences begin at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Eternal Memories, Mausoleum, 1501 Waverly Street.
Cara Momma, while we will mourn your loss, you will be forever in our hearts. Cara Nonna, Riposa in Pace e Sempri nei nostri cuore!
