KATHLEEN GODFREY
July 1, 1924 - February 1, 2020

Peacefully, at River East Personal Care Home, at the age of 95, on February 1.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Yvonne (Harry) Miller and Pauline (Ernie) Kulbaba; grandchildren: Terri (Troy) Butz, Linda (Bob) Cymbalisty, Lori Miller St. Onge and Craig (Devon) Kulbaba; great-grandchildren: Keyra, Gavin, Jordan, Devin and Brooklyn. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, including Darci Thorpe and Margaret Hay.
Predeceased by her husband, Ernie; her parents, Frank and Lily Broadbent; in-laws, Walter and Isabel Godfrey; brother and wife, Ron and Mavis Broadbent; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Joe and Joey Lechman, Maurice and Doreen Schneider, Walter and Irene Godfrey.
Kathleen came to Canada as a war bride and was welcomed in by Ernie's family. She developed lifelong friendships with the sewing club group, in particular the Ellis and Onslow families. She belonged to and sang in the choir at St. Thomas Anglican Church; she and Ernie ran the Friday night teen dances at Weston Community Club. She worked at Winnipeg General Hospital, Midtown Buffet and Polo Park Sears in the Manitoba Room. She was involved with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Ladies Auxiliary and the Weston Brooklands Legion Branch #2.
Kathleen enjoyed the family cottage at Engineer Lake with her grandpuppies and all of nature's creatures, and spent many an hour picking blueberries.
The family would like to thank Elizabeth and the staff from Riverside Lions on Worthington for their care during her years there; and then later, all the amazing staff at River East Personal Care Home - everyone, from Debbie greeting us at the front desk, the crew in the kitchen making delicious meals, Cindy and the other Recreation staff who always made sure Mom got to all the music events, and all the nurses and caregivers, especially the staff on Charity Road who treated Mom and all of us as family.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Kathleen's memory to River East Personal Care Home, Life Enrichment Program, 1375 Molson Street, Winnipeg, MB R2K 4K8, or a charity of your choice.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date.

  • Yvonne, Pauline and families, I was so sad to read of your Mom’s passing. When I think of her it is with fond memories of being neighbours on East Street and of course the Sewing Club. Did they ever sew? With my sincere condolences, Val Carlyle (Butterfield) - Posted by: Val Carlyle (Neighbour) on: Feb 10, 2020
