IRENE MARIE THERESE
PAQUETTE

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Irene Marie Therese Paquette (nee Ponchon) on March 9, 2020, at the age of 93 years.
She had been a resident at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface. Irene was the first born child of Jean and Anais Ponchon (nee le Hellard) in Winnipeg, MB. She grew up in Fisher Branch on a farm. Irene moved to Winnipeg to complete her Grade 12 at the St. Charles Convent. After completing her Grade 12, she moved back to Fisher Branch to help out on the farm as her father was sick. After her dad passed, she moved back to Winnipeg to become a School Teacher.
She taught her first classes Grades One through Eight in Inwood, MB. Five years in Fisher Branch and eventually moved to Winnipeg where she taught the remainder of her career at Glenwood School in St. Vital. During that time, she met Laurent Paquette and they were married in December of 1970. She retired in 1990 and they continued to live in their home on River Road in St. Vital until moving to the Cathedrale Manor in 2015.
Irene loved teaching and dedicated her whole life to children. When she took time off, her and Laurent loved travelling and visited many places but France being her favourite place to visit family and friends. Irene was an avid sewer and enjoyed yard work, gardening and taking care of her home. Above all she loved spending time with family. She was a warm, generous, and conscientious wife, daughter, sister, friend and a devoted church member. She treated everyone with respect and affection, and will be missed dearly.
Irene leaves behind her sister Bertha Wallack of Winnipeg, her nieces and nephews, stepson Elmer, and many other family members that she loved. She was predeceased by her husband Laurent in 2016.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to Actionmarguerite and staff for all their kindness and compassion. Your support and comfort are greatly appreciated.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Irene's life will be held on Saturday, March 14 at Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St. at 10:30 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery.
