FLORENCE VINCENT
(née BOUVIER)
She will be sadly missed by her seven children, Norman (Claire), Corinne (Bob) Sontag, Denis (Paulette), Raymond (Brenda), Lionel (Elaine), David (Colette), Robert (Pauline); 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister Noëlla (Raymond) Desautels, as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
Mom was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Carolus, her parents, Emeric Bouvier and Rose Anna (née Juneau), her brothers, Emmanuel and Aimé, her sisters, Alice Boisjoli, Marie Vinette and Sr. Dorothée Bouvier.
Mom was born in Fisher Branch on July 8, 1927. Her family moved to St. Georges when she was two and a half years old, where her father built Bouvier General Store. She spent her entire childhood there and received all her schooling in St. Georges except for one year at St. Adolphe Convent and part of a year at St. Joseph's Academy in St. Boniface. Mom learned weaving, bought a loom and sold her woven fabrics to the Pine Falls Mercantile Store and also to a shopkeeper in Winnipeg. She also worked in her father's store and in the St. Georges Post Office.
Mom and Dad were married on August 28, 1946. She sold Avon for many years and worked for Statistics Canada. She cared about her community; she served on various church committees and was involved with the building of the Châteauguay Foyer in St. Georges where she served as president for six years. She played the organ at church for a number of years. Mom enjoyed playing cards, bingo, visiting family and friends, travelling, attending plays and concerts and cross-country skiing. Mom moved to St. Boniface in 2000 where she made many more friends. People were drawn to her caring, compassionate and friendly demeanour.
Mom had a wonderful sense of humour. She loved telling jokes and laughed full heartedly at ours. In her later years, she sometimes rested while we visited but she would smile when she heard a 'good one'. Mémère's love for her family is what her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember the most. She always had a keen interest in each and every one of them, remembered their names and would always ask questions about their lives. She will truly be missed.
We want to thank the staff at Residence Despins and Foyer Valade for the care they provided Mom.
Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held at Cathédral St. Boniface on Friday, March 20, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. Private family interment will take place at St. Georges cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mom's memory to the charity of your choice.
