1949 - 2020

On March 29, 2020, we said our final goodbye to a loving husband and father, a proud Gido, and a well-known community member better known as Balloon Man John. John was very proud of his 35 year career as a fire fighter with AECL. Retiring 11 years ago, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, entertaining everyone else's children with his balloon twisting, and of course spending time with his wife, best friend and partner in all things, Cathleen.
John is survived by Cathleen Kowaluk, his loving wife of 50 years; sons, Jason (Kathleen); Sheldon (Jennifer) Kowaluk; and grandchildren, Emily, Patrick, Olivia, Abigail and Julia; and his sisters, Mary, Nadia and Helen. He is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Anne; his sister, Elsie; and his brother, Peter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  • Hello Cathleen, we were so shocked and saddened to hear about John’s passing. John was a delightful man and a much loved neighbour. My favourite memories were your perogy dinners and the time you two made numerous balloon animals for our grandchildren in Sunflower. Take care Cathleen. Please call me when you Are up to it. Dale and I are sincerely sorry for your loss. You two were such a cute were such great dancers. And great volleyball players!
