ROBERTA JOY (BOBBIE) HOLLAND
(née MCINTOSH)
April 15, 1941 - March 29, 2020

With broken hearts, after a courageous fight with cancer, our family announces the passing of our beautiful, sweet mother, Bobbie Holland.
She was predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Norma McIntosh; her daughter Kristen, and her nephew Paul Leitch. She leaves to mourn her partner Ron Shaddy; her son Rob (Jennifer); grandsons, Tommy and Porter; her former husband and friend, Ted Holland. Also her sister Eileen Virnig; nieces, Kim Shippam and Pat Eggleston; nephew Michael Virnig; sister Kathie Leitch; nephews, Andrew and Chris Leitch; as well as many great-nephews, great-nieces and friends.
Bobbie was born in Winnipeg and was raised in Norwood. She attended Queen Elizabeth School, followed by Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. She went on to graduate from Nursing at Children's Hospital in 1963 and she nursed in Chicago for a few years after that. Bobbie then worked at Northwest Orient as a stewardess. In her later years, she worked as a nurse's aide at Central Park Lodge.
Bobbie came from a swimming family and loved to swim from an early age. In her teen years, she taught swimming at Winnipeg Beach. At one point Bobbie even swam across West Hawk Lake. She entered many swim meets with the Winnipeg Masters Swim Club where she met her partner, Ron. She often came in first in her age group and joked it was because there was no one else in her age group. She loved to walk, often walking over 10 km a day - and was always happy to stop and enjoy a coffee along the way.
She had a huge heart and went out of her way to give to others, more than she received. Bobbie donated blood 191 times. She said the best days were when they had bagels at the end. She volunteered at numerous places, including many soup kitchens to care for those less fortunate.
Her grandsons were her pride and joy. She loved attending their hockey and baseball games and always supported them. She made incredibly decorated cakes for all their birthdays.
Because of her birthdate, she strongly felt that she was a passenger on the Titanic in her past life.

A life well lived.

Special thanks to Allison Bisiak at the Grace Hospital, who came to say goodnight at the end of every shift. Thank you to Dr. Martin for the house calls and Dr. St. Goddard and his team at Riverview Health Centre. We couldn't have asked for any better care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Canadian Blood Services.
Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, a Celebration of Life reception will be held at a later date.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Bobbie and I became friends about 8 years ago, when we took a class together. She was always ready to support me with an encouraging word. She also inspired me to take up swimming. I will miss Bobbie, but she will be forever in my heart. - my condolences to her family ❤️ Joanne - Posted by: Joanne (Friend ) on: Apr 10, 2020

  • I shall always remember Bobbie's big bright smile, and her self-deprecating humour. She always made me laugh at our support group meetings. I was inspired by Bobbie - she was a brave old broad, and I marvelled at her willingness to do the difficult work needed to heal herself. She always spoke lovingly of her grandsons, excited when their birthdays came around so she could make them a special cake. My heartfelt condolences to Ron and to Bobbie's family. I will miss her. - Posted by: Sandra Stuart (Friend) on: Apr 08, 2020

  • My sincere sympathy to Bobbie's family. It was a pleasure to see her not too long ago at the reunion for the River Heights Cardinals - she and I spent many happy hours watching our boys play in the "good old days". She will be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Jeanie Dubberley (friend) on: Apr 04, 2020

  • I met Bobbie first through Janie a few years ago. Always so cheerful and I was always amazed how much and how far she would walk. She and I worked together in the kitchen helping to prepare the buns for the fall tea and bazaar, cutting, buttering and fillings on. A joy to work with. Earth has lost a wonderful friend, and now she is another Angel watching over us. Sincere condolences to her family, she will always be in your hearts. - Posted by: Florence Horan (friend from First Presbyterian Church ) on: Apr 04, 2020
