PETER ALLAN ARNASON

Suddenly, on March 29, 2020, at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Peter Arnason, aged 61 years, of Gimli, Manitoba, passed away.
He was predeceased by his father Charlie, brother Chuck, and best friend/cousin Brad. His memory will be cherished by his mother Lorraine Arnason, sisters, Charlene Arnason (Murray Deamel), Bonnie (Dwight) Franz, and Linda Arnason (Joe Bobrovich), sister-in-law Sherry Arnason, nieces and nephews, Julia, Travis (Kayleigh), Tim (Edina), Josh (Destiny), Branden (Andrea), Jon (Erin) and Thor, and his great-nieces, Leia and Milla.
Pete was born in Gimli, Manitoba on May 15, 1958, he was raised on the family farm in Minerva. After attending Gimli High School, he remained on the farm and worked alongside his father on various farming endeavours. The father and son duo eventually settled into fishing which Peter continued as his profession until his final days. He was an avid Jets fan and kept up to date with news, weather, sports, science and especially family. He loved watching his nephews play hockey and perform in band concerts and looked forward to family dinners. He had a quest for knowledge, was an avid reader, and had a memory second to none. His incredible vocabulary and broad knowledge made him a worthy opponent in Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy. Friends and family recognized his wealth of knowledge and would claim him as their shout out, lifeline, or call a friend should they be on a trivia show. He was a kind, caring and compassionate soul whose mission in life was to bring a smile to people's faces. He lovingly cared for his mother, taking her for long drives, bringing her flowers and faithfully visiting her in Betel. Pete believed that laughter might be the best medicine and everyone who experienced his uncanny wit, kind smile and charming laugh walked away feeling a bit better. He had faith in God and the healing power of prayer and would pray for those in need. He was generous to a fault with everything, knowledge, time, money and especially love. He volunteered for Diabetes Canada and appreciated the generosity he experienced. He dreamt of winning the lottery so that he could share his winnings with others, and he let everyone know how much he had them "pencilled in for". Pete was a humble man that believed in treating all people with kindness, fairness, dignity and respect. He also loved to give nicknames so, Chloe, Herbert, Susy and Marvin he spoke of you often.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Gimli Community Health Centre.
As per Pete's wishes there will be a private family interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Diabetes Canada, or Husavik Cemetery.

  • To Charlene, Murray, Bonnie, Dwight,Linda,Joey and all the family:So very sorry to hear about Peters death.I absolutely loved serving him when he came into Lakeview with you or just by himself. He would always brighten up my shift and make me laugh.Often just ordering I just came to remember “plain chicken breast, chef potatoes and the only vegetable was carrots. We would get the cooks to make it special for him oh and Ofcourse black coffee. He would sit and visit and joke about life and tips.He was so funny and his wit was contagious. He often talked about the lottery and promised me that I would be penciled in if he won.I was so lucky to have gotten to serve and have those special visit with him. That was always better than any tip could be.Rest in peace Peter you are now with Chuck again. Two brothers that were just a wonderful blessing to have had a chance to know. They still both make me laugh and warm my “soul” when I think of them.Tracey - Posted by: Tracey Robrtson (Friend) on: Apr 04, 2020
