SYLVIA STANDIL BORODITSKY

We are sad to inform you that Sylvia passed peacefully on April 6, 2020, at the Simkin Centre in Winnipeg.
Mom was born in London, England on February 17, 1923. Her early life was hard as this was during the Great Depression and the Second World War. She enlisted in the Women's Royal Air Force (WRAF) and in 1945 she met my father, Joe, at The Jewish Service Club in London. My father said he immediately knew he would marry her and in 1946 they married and she came to Winnipeg. They had two children: sons, Earl and Raymond. My father doted on my mother and until his premature death in 1976 they had a great marriage. My mom later met and married David Boroditsky in 1978 and until his death in 1992 they had a strong, loving marriage.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Lily and Morris Newman, brother and sister-in- law Lou and Maud Newman, sister-in-law Lucy Braunstein, son Raymond and daughter- in-law Frances Standil. She is survived by her son Earl (Carolyn), granddaughters, Carrie (Sean) and Libby, great-grandson Jarod, daughter-in-law Lucy Stoppler, and the Boroditsky family.
A funeral service was held at the B'nai Abraham Cemetery on April 7, 2020, and due to the current circumstances was limited to immediate family only. Pallbearers were Carrie, Libby, Jarod, Jeffrey Freedman, Larry Freedman and Neil Swirsky. Honourable Pallbearer was Norman Freedman.
Thank you to the Congregation Etz Chayim especially Rabbi Kliel Rose during this strange time. I would especially like to thank nurses, Sheryl and Sergio on Weinberg 1 at the Simkin Centre for their empathy and care of my mom over the years.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or a charity of your choice.
