March 11, 1938 - May 4, 2020
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ruth Hagberg on May 4, 2020, at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 82.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Andrew Staub, Karen Guest (Bud), Cheryl Schmidt; granddaughter Piper Thomson; sister Karen Bain (Don); and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Ingjurd; three brothers, Reggie, Barry, David; and five sisters, Lillian Duggan, Evelyn Shushack, Stacie Hagberg, Sandra Talaga, Johanne Jacobson-Chute; and granddaughter Calais Staub.
Ruth grew up in Winnipeg and enjoyed a successful career in retail management while raising her family. Family was very important to Ruth. She most enjoyed the many small and large get-togethers where she could be found cooking, dancing, doing reflexology, and sharing an inspiring conversation on the meaning of life. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, shopping and socializing. Ruth was blessed with a fun, loving soul and a generous spirit which she shared with everyone she knew.
Ruth was strong willed and determined and she fought a hard battle these past three years. We love her and we will miss her.
A special thank you to the palliative care community nurses and Riverview Health Care for their kindness and compassionate care during Ruth's decline in health.
In accordance with Ruth's wishes cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will take place when provincial guidelines allow.
Family and friends are encouraged to share in a photo tribute, stories and
condolences for family by visiting Ruth's
memorial page at www.alternacremation.ca.

My sister and I lived across the alley from the Hagberg's for many years. My sis and I would go to the store Ruthie worked at many times. Ruthie was always full of fun and laughter. Those were the days. May she rest in peace. Our condolences to all. Sadly, we had four friends and family pass around Christmas and through a mix up, and not recognising the name Jacobson, we missed her sister Johanne's passing until two days ago. Both sisters will be sadly missed. Linda Williams and Merry Jane Anderson - Posted by: Merry Jane Anderson and Linda Williams (old friends) on: May 09, 2020

I had the honour of knowing Ruth through her Daughter and Granddaughter, Cheryl and Piper. Ruth was such a strong, caring warrior. She was a definite asset to her family and community. Ruth was certainly a caring, giving, nurturing and loyal strong woman. She made sure Everyone around her was cared for and all their needs were met. Often times forgetting her own. It was her selfless acts of kindness did she forget that daily trips to the supermarket for one item at a time were a tad time consuming! :) she will be greatly missed. Fly like a butterfly to the Angels above. Your struggle and pain will be no more. Joy and laughter with your sisters.. your siblings and loved ones.. you glow once again as you continue to watch over and guide your family.. May you visit Cheryl and Piper in their dreams .. let them know you are near them by simple little things.. My heart and prayers to your family and friends. May they find comfort in knowing your suffering is over.. Take the time to heal and reminisce of your love for each and every one of them.. Although life will no longer be as they know it to be.. their hearts will long for you .. each day will be different.. there will be ups and downs.. May they comfort each other hold those dear memories. Piper, I know you will miss your Grandma deeply.. I’m so sorry for your broken heart.. I empathize to the nth degree with the loss of your mother and grandmother. May you and Piper wrap yourselves in each other during the difficult times and remember the good times you shared with her. - Posted by: Lana Storey (former teacher of Cheryl) on: May 09, 2020
