ARCHER GARRIOCH
May 22, 1938 - May 24, 2020

Archer passed away at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 82.
He is predeceased by his wife Betty, who he had lost only five months ago. He is also predeceased by brothers, George, Gilmour, Doug and sister Clara.
Archer is survived by his kids, Charlene (Chuck), Brent (Barb), Glen (Deb) and Kevin (Fiona); and grandchildren, Rebecca, Hillary, Nolan, Avery, Benjamin, William, Kristine, Alex and Emily; along with sisters, Marion, Phyllis, Nellie, Glennis, Rhoda and Fern and brother Stewart.
Archer was born and raised in Kinosota, Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg, met his wife Betty and they were married in 1963. They stayed in Winnipeg to raise their family. He worked a variety of jobs and did cattle farming on the side, which was his true passion. After working a full week in the city, he would spend the weekend at the farm looking after the cattle that were like pets to him. He would walk to the fence, call the herd and they would all come running. He couldn't wait to get back to Kinosota to live at the farm full time and in 2001 he was finally able to move back home.
Along with farming, his new hobbies were feeding birds and collecting beer cans. His friends and family did their best to contribute as many cans as possible. He would love to look out his bedroom window looking at the whole family laughing around a huge bonfire he had made. He also loved to play crib and would play for a loonie with anyone he could find. He loved the family crib tournaments which became a tradition on the long weekends.
To Archer, country music was the only type of music there was. He enjoyed playing guitar and had a beautiful voice. When he was younger, he sang and played in a country band to make some extra money. He also loved vegetable gardening. He grew potatoes everywhere at the farm and then shared the crop with his family and friends. Archer was an avid fisherman and loved frying up fish for the family. Dad loved going out for meals and found it hard to resist Chicken Chef chicken or an A&W teenburger and root beer. Red wine at daily happy hours with various family and friends was a highlight. When the weather was nice, walking to the beach to have their wine was an added bonus.
Later in life, he loved reading western books, watching Columbo and Jets games. He lived in Winnipeg the last months of his life, but his heart always remained in Kinosota.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Zhang who showed such compassion during a difficult time and the staff on 4E at St. Boniface Hospital. We'd also like to thank our family and friends for the love and support given to us during this past year and the staff at Catherine's Place who did their best to make Dad's stay there enjoyable.
A celebration of Mom and Dad's life will be held sometime in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada (www.diabetes.ca/donate).
