GRANT WILLIAM COLLINS

With deep love and affection our family announces the peaceful passing of our husband and father Grant William Collins at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care on Sunday, August 9, 2020.
Grant will be deeply missed by his loving wife Susan, of 46 years; his children, Diana, Darren (Kristin), and Daniel; his sister Sheila (Harold); his half-sister Jeanette Gunnlaugson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, other loved ones and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his mom and dad and his half-brother Roy Collins.
I Thessalonians 4:13-14: "Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him."
Grant was a man of faith who gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 19 and continually sought God's will for his life. We rejoice that he is safely in the arms of Jesus reunited with his precious mom and dad. We look forward to the day we will all be together again.
Grant was born on August 23, 1952 in Winnipeg to William and Gertrude Collins, living all of his life there (with a few short years in St. Adolphe). He was employed with Canada Post for over 35 years, retiring in 2010.
Grant was a deep thinker who loved to study the Bible and discuss/debate its many truths and promises. He was a loving husband whose life was dedicated to nurturing and caring for his family. His children were his greatest earthly joy and he loved spending time with them helping in any way he could with home projects or advice on everyday repairs. He was meticulous in everything he did and was always sure it was done right no matter how long it took. He was not only proud of their accomplishments in life, but of the kind and compassionate adults they became. He felt blessed to be called their "Dad" (or Pops).
Grant battled pancreatic cancer for three and a half years with a sure confidence that God was able to heal and restore, never complaining and always with a positive attitude. The strength he showed during his illness was a wonder to behold. We are in awe of the amazing peace and joy he showed through it all.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at CancerCare Victoria Hospital, Dr. Torri, and all of the nurses and admin staff who treated Grant over the past three years. Their compassion and kindness will never be forgotten. As difficult as the treatments were, they became a part of our lives sharing their own stories of family with us and we would look forward to seeing them each time we were there and hearing what was new in their lives. A special thank you to Dr. Orgaranko for his continued care and support. We are deeply grateful. Thank you to the WRHA Palliative Care Program whose nursing staff visited and helped with Grant's care. Thanks as well to Riverview Health Centre and the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for their care during the past month.
Jude 3: "Beloved....I found it necessary and was compelled to write you and urgently appeal to you to contend for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints."
Due to Manitoba's health restrictions, a small service will be held with family and close friends at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 16 at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. The service will be taped and if you would like to have a copy or link please contact a family member.
