JOHN KAETHLER
He will be greatly missed by his wife Elaine, of 49 years, his loving children, Bob (Tasha) and Dan (Carmen), his beautiful grandchildren, Chloe, Charlie and Judy, who meant the world to him, brother Rudy (Dorothy), sister Pauline, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, Nikolai and Helena, sister Olga, and brother Henry.
"Johnny K" was born April 20, 1943, in Steinbach, Manitoba. After living briefly in St. Anne, the family moved to Winnipeg where he attended Lord Kitchener and high school at Miles Macdonell. At school, John acquired many life-long friends, who to this day still call him "Satch".
During high school John pursued his love for music. He was very talented, always playing guitar, upright bass, drums, piano or singing a tune. He went on his way to play bass for "Chad Allen and the Sticks and Strings". It was then, while rocking-out with the band that he met the love of his life, Elaine Laniuk. John and Elaine were married on June 12, 1971. It wasn't long after they got married that John decided that he needed to put down his bass to pursue his career as a Journeyman Electrician. John and Elaine had two boys. Shortly after their firstborn, they decided to build their cedar-log home in Lockport, Manitoba. Here they raised their boys, had countless dinners, bonfires and made many happy memories, enjoying their life with family and friends.
John continued his career as an Electrician working for Honeywell and then 24 years with the Health Sciences Centre where he eventually retired.
After retirement he developed a passion for golf thanks to his close friend Bill McDougall. John loved the game and would walk 18 holes every time he golfed.
When he wasn't puttering around the yard, helping his sons with a project, brewing a batch of suds, or with his lovely grandchildren you could find him at a golf course.
John was always ready and willing to help and he could fix absolutely anything. His sense of humour, love for family and dedication to his wife and children will be missed.
John leaves behind beautiful memories and the realization of how fortunate we are to have had him as a Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. We love you, John.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for which guests will be contacted. After the private service, we welcome others to the Kaethler yard to pay their respects. During these events, please respect Covid-19 restrictions by practicing physical distancing and mask-wearing when appropriate.
Condolences may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com.

So sorry to hear about John. I worked with him for many years at HSC. He was always ready to lend a hand. A good man to have on your team. After retirement we would sometimes bump into each other at the Sals on Henderson having a breakfast. Rest in peace old chum... - Posted by: David Robertson (friend and co worker) on: Sep 07, 2020

God bless you John and family. Just one of those rare people in life that you will never forget. First time I met you was at your beautiful home in Lockport. We hit it off right away talking about music, golf, hockey. Even years after I had lost touch with you, you reached out and phoned me when my father passed, that meant the world to me and I wish we could have kept in touch. My prayers are with you Elaine and the boys. Ron - Posted by: Ron Frechette (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2020

Dear Elaine, Terry and I are deeply saddened to hear the loss of John and extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have known John as Satch ever since we were in grade 9 together at Lord Kitchener/John Pritchard School. He was the consummate jovial, fun-loving guy often with a mischievous grin ready for his next antics. We shared many friends. Lately, whenever we would see him, he was always so happy to share his stories and pictures of his beautiful granddaughters. Oh! how he loved and was so proud of all his family! We will truly miss our dear Satch. Irene and Terry Spooner - Posted by: Irene and Terry Spooner (friends) on: Sep 05, 2020
