PETER AWANG
1951 - 2020
Peter was born in Trinidad on February 25, 1951. In 1975 Peter came to Canada and became a Canadian Citizen in 1989. Peter started his career in Canada at Singer Machines and then Rayovac and then moved on to Griffin Wheel Company, where he worked until he retired at the age of 60.
Peter had many passions including music, fishing, cooking and talking to everyone he met. Music was a big part of Peter's life. He played many instruments and was a member of a band with opportunities to play at Folklorama, Parang concerts and many private venues.
In 2013 Peter's kidneys were failing and it was necessary for him to go on home dialysis. In 2015 Peter suffered a stroke and had to start doing hemodialysis at St. Boniface Hospital. The family would like to thank everyone at the Dialysis Department at the St. Boniface Hospital for taking great care of Peter.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 44 years, Janice; their two sons, Ryan (Breanne) and Matthew (Jennifer), and their grandchildren, Kayla, Kaden, Leah and Easton. Also remembering him, are his sisters, Joan and Susan and brother Greg (Zareeda). He was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Gregor, his sister Beverley and brother Michael.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service has been held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peter's memory to the Kidney Foundation or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
