AMELIA (MILDRED) GOGUSH
(nee PETRIW)
November 26, 1925 - September 29, 2020

With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Amelia (Mildred) Gogush, at the age of 94.
Mildred was born and raised on her parents' dairy farm in Rosser, MB on Inkster Blvd. She met the love of her life, Michael, when he came to work on the farm, and they married in 1945. Mildred was a homemaker and later, worked at the original A&W in Winnipeg as a car hop, and at several hotel dining rooms until her retirement in 1988.
They bought five acres of land in Kirkfield Park, and built a garage with two rooms to live in while Mike built their first home. By that time, they had three children, and later, two more completed their family. They moved into their second home built by Mike, on Roblin Blvd., in 1972.
After Mike passed away, Mildred travelled with her friends, loved to line dance and bowl, and was a prolific knitter. She was an amazing cook, and we all tried to learn the little things that made her perogies, cabbage rolls, dill pickles and Easter bread so delicious. She lived independently well into her late 80s, and continued to enjoy life in assisted living until her passing.
She was a strong woman who worked hard to make her children's lives better, and those values have been passed onto the next generations. She loved our family gatherings, and especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mildred is survived by her children: Allan Gogush (Evelyn), Judy Crawford, Richard Gogush (Penny), Sharon Jones (Chuck Saunders) and Maureen Masse; sister, Lillian Kustra (Ed); eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with a seventh arriving any day. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in 1985; and her sister, Olga Bilous; and brothers Daniel Petriw and Bernie Petriw.
Special thanks to Marc Ferris who was a big part of Mildred's life for many years, to the Portsmouth for making her last years enjoyable, and to the caregivers at the Victoria Hospital 5th Floor for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
There will be no public celebration of her life, but please take the time to remember her in your thoughts.
