SPEERS: E. Olive Speers, 1 March 1928 – 12 Aug. 2020. Olive passed away peacefully at home 12 Aug 2020 at the age of 92 years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, David, son Gerald (Glenda), grandsons: Garrett, Geoffrey (Meghan), and great-grandchildren Logan, Gage and Kenna. Olive was the eldest of 9 siblings born and raised in the Alexander district to Oliver and Evelyn Dunn. Olive and David went to school together so their relationship grew from a young age. They married in June of 1953 and shared 67 years of hard work, fun and dedication. They farmed in the Alexander area and Olive was an equal partner to David. She could be found: milking the cows, driving the grain truck during harvest, harrowing after spring seeding, working in the garden or whatever job that was required around the farm. Olive was always an active member of the United Church. First in Alexander and then upon retirement and a move to Brandon she continued to be involved with Trinity United Church. For many years she was the secretary of the UCW and also Treasurer for Alexander Church. David and Olive enjoyed special times with friends spending many a night playing cards, visiting, camping at Oak Lake, or travelling around Manitoba for fall suppers. She enjoyed curling, golfing, knitting, bowling and visiting with family and friends. Together, David and Olive enjoyed trips to Alaska, the maritime’s, Florida, Arizona, Victoria and of course attended several Briers. In their 80’s they accompanied their family twice to Mexico to attend their grandsons’ destination weddings. Grandsons, Garrett and Geoff always enjoyed a constant flow of support, love and encouragement. Grandma was constantly “sliding a few bucks” their way, a tradition that she continued with her 3 great-grandkids. Olive continued baking cakes, cookies, cupcakes and tarts right up to her passing. Throughout her 92 years she was always a going concern and in true form she was out and about the day before her passing. Olive was predeceased by her parents, siblings: Martha MacGill, Betty Bailey, Harold Dunn, Myran Dunn, Shirley Butula. Surviving are sisters Florence Douglas, Jean Dane, Marilyn Kohut (Ernie), numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces. Everyone that knew her, remember her kindness, endless energy and zest for life. She is dearly missed and we were all very fortunate to have known and loved her. Internment has already taken place in Alexander Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Trinity United Church in Brandon or charity of your choice.
