PICKELL: Margaret Ruth passed away peacefully January 13th, 2009 at the Palliative Care ward in Brandon, MB at the age of 87 years. Ruth was born on September 14th, 1921 to Margaret and Charles Carter. Known to many as Ruth, she was later referred to as Mom and later as Nana. Nana was always young at heart, playing with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughter. Nana touched the lives of everyone she met; let it be a long-term friend or a family member. Nana's 87 years of knowledge, love and wisdom will be remembered by all. Nana would want us to focus not on the sadness of her passing, but on the happiness we have in our memories of her in our lives today. She would ask that we focus on one another, and appreciate those we have in our lives. Nana is survived by her brother Dick Carter of Three Hills, AB, son Ritchie Rasmussen of Regina, SK and daughter Nancy Thompson of Camrose, AB. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sandi Ross of Brandon, Paul Ibbotson of Three Hills, AB, Cheryl-Lynne Ibbotson of Calgary, Alberta and Brad Schweitz of Camrose, Alberta; great grandchildren: Kyla Black of Brandon, Amber Black of Brandon and Hunter Schweitz of Camrose, Alberta; and great-great granddaughter Kristine Kohler of Brandon. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Frank Pickell. The Funeral was held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home on January 16th, 2009 with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. Interment followed in the Veterans Section of the Brandon Cemetery. Urn bearers were her great granddaughters, Kyla and Amber Black. Donations can be made in Nana's memory to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Palliative Care Services, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3.
