DALE: Edward Parsons (Ted) It is with sadness that the family of Edward Dale announces his passing on March 2, 2009 at the Winnipeg Victoria Hospital after a very full life as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a close friend to many. Ted was predeceased by his first wife, Viola in 1975, second wife, Gladys in 2008, brother Ross and sisters Hazel Oberlin and Eileen Pearson. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter Lorna Thompson (Ron Dupras) and her children Gordon (Nancy) and Kenneth Thompson; daughter Barbara Glawson (Keith), and their children Dallas Glawson (Hillary) and Jai-Lynne McAmmond (Phil), great-grandchildren Makenna and Avery McAmmond; son Edward W. Dale, Jr. (Carolyn) and their children Jason Palmer (Kate), Gwyneth and great-grandchild Carson Palmer, Edward J. and Kaisley Dale. Also by his extended Ridley family: Jane Ridley (Weldon-deceased); Jackie Hodgson (Bob) and Cathy Poole (Allan), as well as all their children and grandchildren. Ted was born at Medora, Manitoba on December 4, 1911. He received his education at Medora Sherwood School, the Deloraine School and finished his school years in Lauder. Ted first started farming with his father, Edward Simms in Lauder. He purchased Gateside Stock Farm in 1937 where he and his brother Ross farmed, side by side, until 1977. It was there he branded his cattle with the symbol Bar 9D. Ted married Viola Brown of Strathclair in 1940 and they resided at Gateside Stock Farm until her sudden passing in 1975. Ted and Ross sold the farm shortly after. Ted remarried in 1978 to Gladys Ridley of Morden. For several years they enjoyed their home in Brandon and found much pleasure “snow birding” in Arizona. They later moved to the Sterling House in Winnipeg and spent many enjoyable years there making many wonderful friendships along the way. During his years in the Lauder area, Ted was chairman of the Lauder School Board for 20 years; worked for the Lake of the Wood Elevator Co. in Lauder for 17 years and was a member of the Hartney Masonic Lodge. Ted had two passions in life - the sport of curling and of standard bred horse racing. An outstanding achievement for Ted came in 1961 when he and his curling teammates won the Zone 9 playoffs giving them a place in the Provincial Championships that led up to the Brier Competition. When Ted could no longer curl, he turned to owning race horses. He enjoyed seeing them compete at various racing circuits throughout southern Manitoba. Ted was made an honorary member of the Canadian Horse Racing Association in 1998. Funeral services will be held at the Lauder United Church in Lauder, Manitoba on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will take place following the service at the Lauder Cemetery.
