She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends and especially by her nieces Beryl (Tom) Cuddy and Joyce Coutts. Burdette (Bud) Frances Coutts was born in the family home on Young Street, Carberry, on April 2, 1908, the youngest of Helen and John Coutts 10 children. Bud remained in Carberry, a town she cared for, all her life and laid claim to being the oldest continuous resident of the town. She moved from the family residence on Young Street to her home on Selkirk, presently owned by grandson Brian and Annie Ramsey and then to her final residence at the Carberry Personal Care Home. Bud and husband Dudley were married at the Little Britain Church in 1933 and raised their family in Carberry where Dudley operated the Ramsey Garage from 1937 to 1966, turning it over to son Robert and now the R.D. Ramsey Ltd. garage and GM dealership is operated by grandsons Brian and Bruce Ramsey. Burdette was active in many organizations and activities in Carberry all of her life. She was an excellent skater and received many awards for speed skating and on one occasion while in California, she skated in the film, Wife Versus Secretary, as an extra. This film starred Clarke Gable. Bud and Dudley were involved in the establishment of the Carberry Hall when it was moved from the airport site to its present location along with numerous volunteers from the town. She was also awarded life memberships in the Presbyterian Ladies Auxiliary, the I.O.D.E., the Carberry Horticultural Society and the Fox Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Carberry Foundation. Bud had fond memories of the many trips she and Dudley embarked on as they traveled through Canada and the United States, dipping their fishing lines wherever they stopped. Their cottage at Delta Beach and their home in Carberry was always a welcome stop for whoever came through the doors. They were a wonderful example to all who met them and were always there for the family in times of trouble and joy. Burdette loved life and was loved all her life by those she touched. Bud's love of her grandchildren and great grandchildren was always evident and she will be missed by us all. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the doctors and especially the loving and caring staff of the Carberry Personal Care Home. Bud considered you a part of her family and we know the feeling was mutual. Cremation has taken place and interment and a memorial service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox-Zion Presbyterian Church, Carberry, Manitoba. As an expression of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Burdette's memory to the Carberry and Area Community Foundation - Dudley and Burdette Ramsey Family Fund, Box 807, Carberry, Manitoba, R0K 0H0 or a charity of your choice.
