SKOBLACK: Nellie Skoblack passed away on March 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon. Nellie was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba on January 25, 1911. She spent her early years on a homestead in that area where her parents settled after emigrating from the Ukraine. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Tom in 1972, six sisters and five brothers. She is survived by three sisters, Stella, Mary and Kay; her daughters Josephine (Galipeau) of Parksville, B.C., Marion (Kelleher) of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Shirley (Thompson) of Nanaimo, B.C.; five granddaughters, two grandsons, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. Nellie was a skilled, self-taught seamstress, her family, friends and many residents of Brandon benefited by those skills. She was an honest, hard working woman her entire life. She had to accomplish something every day. Her garden, sewing and handicrafts were the joys of her life. Her family was very important to her. She made her last trip to the West Coast in January of 2009 and was able to have her "five generation" picture taken there one of her last goals. She leaves a space in our lives that can never be filled. It seems so strange that those we need, and those we love the best,Are just the ones God called away andtook them home to rest. But every time we think of themwe seem to hear God say:"Have faith and trust my promise;Youll meet again some day."The family would like to express their appreciation to the many friends and neighbors who supported her over the years and enabled her to stay in her home to the end. We would also like to thank Dr. Groves and the staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre and Assiniboine Centre for their thoughtful and tender care. Cremation took place on March 12, 2009 and a Memorial Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nellie may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200-17th Street East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7M6 or to a charity of choice. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
