DUNFIELD: Anne Kathleen (December 15, 1916 - April 6, 2009). Mom passed away peacefully at Fairview Home, in Brandon, on April 6, 2009. She was ninety-two. She is survived by her son, Grant (Marion), daughter Mary-Ann (Don Lepper), grandchildren Allison (Scott Emmerson), Paula, Stephen (Maureen), Sean (Tobi), and great grandchildren Jillian, Luke, Kaitlin, and Auriel. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Masciuch and niece, Elizabeth (Dan Sprague). She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Edgar, to whom she was married for fifty-two years. Ed passed away in 1995. She was also predeceased by her parents Samuel and Kathleen Waychok, and brother, Walter.Mom graduated from Brandon College in 1937 with a degree in Arts. She taught English and French at B.C.I., Vincent Massey, and Neelin High School for 34 years, retiring in 1977. She will be remembered as a devoted teacher to several generations of students giving of her time to many extra-curricular school activities including dance and dramatic productions. She started into teaching at a time when there were few women working out of the home and fewer still in teaching. Mom’s graduating class from Brandon College maintained a lifelong connection, their last reunion being their 60th in Brandon. Born into a Ukrainian family, Mom was always proud of her heritage and culture and cherished her many friends at the dinners and festivities at the Ukrainian Hall. Mom remained a passionate learner all her life always enrolling in new courses to challenge her active mind – Spanish, German, calligraphy, ballet. After retirement, Mom spent many hours teaching English to new Canadians who immigrated to Brandon, many of whom became good friends. Mom was a devoted mother and grandmother and her grandchildren have very fond memories of holidays spent at the cabin at Clear Lake and Almond Crescent where home-made buns and lemon pies would be waiting on our arrival. She will be remembered as the consummate hostess, cook, homemaker, and contributor to the community through volunteering on many committees and organizations. She was a tireless visitor to shut-in friends. She was a long time member of Knox United Church, making many close friends, serving on numerous committees and singing in the choir. She was a keen basketball player in her youth, an ardent curler, knitter and gardener. Travel was one of her interests well into her eighties. The annual trip to Maui with Ed's family was a highlight of the year and new friends were made there over the years. Mom, you were a wonderful model and inspiration to all your family and friends. We cherish the memories of our times with you and we will miss you. A memorial service will be held at Knox United Church, on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Cathcart officiating. A private family interment will take place prior to the memorial service at Brandon Cemetery.
