NORTHCOTT: It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Sarah (Sadie) Isabella May Northcott of Minnedosa, at the age of 92 years on Friday, April 17, 2009. Sadie was born on May 4, 1916 to Adrian and Caroline Cooley in Shaunavan, Saskatchewan, the youngest of six children. She married Edwin Northcott on June 24, 1936 at the Northcott farm in the Odanah Municipality. Five daughters were to follow, Audrey, Betty, Linda, Muriel and Eleanor. She is predeceased by her parents, sisters: Florence Ashby, Ada Cook, and Margaret Oake and two brothers, Emory and George, husband Edwin in 1992, son-in-law Bob Maliteare in 1994, daughter Muriel Currah 2004, son-in -law Don Peters 2005 and infant great grandson, Donald Mitchell Peters in 1985. She is survived by her four daughters, Audrey Peters, Betty and husband Russell Yandeau, Linda Maliteare, Eleanor and husband Bob Taylor, son- in-law Gordon Currah; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren and one sister-in-law Mrs. Dorothy (Clive) Northcott, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Moms life centered around her family, the farm and her community. She was an active U.C.W. member through the Hunterville United Church, a member of Minnedosa Royal Canadian Legion, a member of Minnedosa United Church and member of the Seniors Activity Center. Her life also centered around music and she passed her love of music on to her daughters, encouraging them to take music lessons and to sing at concerts, etc. in the community. She loved to dance and at one time played the piano with George McLean Orchestra playing for dances at Tremaine School. She did lots of baking for every day and was a very keen competitor at the local summer fairs. She would be quite disappointed if her butter tarts didnt take first prize! When she visited someone who had been ill, she would be there with a pie in each hand. Food at harvest time for many men was always plentiful. Gardening was a passion. Not only one, but two gardens flourished at the farm with dozens of preserves harvested. She also maintained flowers around the gardens and at the house and took great pride in her yard. Another love was quilting. A quilt was lovingly made for each of the family members. Mom was a kindred spirit always concerned for others before herself. She had a contagious smile and made everyone feel welcome in her home. She will be deeply missed Friends who wish may make a donation to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements were with Minnedosa Funeral Service at Minnedosa and service was held at Minnedosa Community Conference Centre on April 22, 2009 with Rev. Bill Doyle officiating. Burial took place in the family plot at Rapid City Cemetery.
