TREBLE: William “Bruce” November 13, 1918 – April 24, 2009. It is with heavy hearts, but wonderful memories we announce the passing of our beloved father and granddad, William “Bruce” Treble. He will be greatly missed by his son Bill (Sue Moore) Treble, daughter Susan Anthony and her son Craig, who was his pride and joy. Bruce is survived by sisters-in-law Mabel Johnston, Tannas Brown and Dorothy Treble. Uncle Bruce will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Elfarata in 1997; his parents Frank and Isabella Treble; a brother Jack Treble and a sister, Jean Knight. Bruce was born on a farm in Solsgirth, the youngest of three children. He went to school in the Solsgirth area through grade eleven and then took grade twelve in Shoal Lake. He worked in J.H. Cairns store and the post office in Kelloe until June 1941. During this time, he went to the CPR Station in the evenings to study railway work, Morse Code and sending telegrams. He began working for the CPR on June 20, 1941. In July 1942, Bruce joined the navy and worked as a telegrapher. He served aboard the cruiser Uganda from December 1944 to August 1945. He returned to the CPR on December 16, 1945 and later married Elfarata in 1948. He was a station agent in many small towns in Saskatchewan and Manitoba and as an operator in Brandon until his retirement on November 13, 1983. Bill and Susan have many fond memories of living in the stations and of our summer months at Clear Lake. Dad lived life to the fullest and made the most of each and every day. He was a quiet man…kind and gentle. A generous loyal friend and hard worker who invariably had a positive attitude. We remember him most for his caring and nurturing spirit with his children and cultivation of his beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, as well as his love of birds and other wildlife. His prized tomatoes were regarded by his neighbours as the most wondrous of sights. Bruce taught his grandson to appreciate the beautiful small things of life. Craig loved to watch him do special projects and fix things, saying “My grandad can fix anything!” Since retiring from the CPR, he took an avid interest in golfing and played in many senior tournaments throughout Manitoba. His enjoyment of helping others showed in many ways with his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. His neighbours appreciated him for his friendship and sense of humour. Dad, you will always have a special place in our hearts. A funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Lawrence McInnes, Brockie Donovan Funeral Celebrant, officiating. A graveside service will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, #1, 613-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G6. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
