WESTLAND:Catherine Westland (McGuire). Peacefully, after a brief incapacity, Catherine passed away at her residence of Stanford Place in Parksville, British Columbia, on April 25, 2009. Catherine was born in Winnipeg, (nee Bartlett), on September 18, 1920, and raised in Winnipeg. She attended the University of Manitoba, and worked in a war plant in Sorrel, Quebec for the duration of the war. She met her first husband, Joseph Edward Ronald McGuire, in Sorrel and following their wedding moved to Winnipeg. They had four children, George, deceased shortly after birth, William James, Maureen Cynthia, and Lawrence Bartlett. She is survived by William James (Diane), of Brandon, Manitoba, their children, Tammy Maunder (Todd), Regina, their children, Kiera, Bryn, and Finn, and Maureen McDuffe ,(Warren), Brandon, their son Brady, and by Maureen Cynthia Harrison (Richard), Victoria, and their children, Christine Harrison and Michael Harrison, and by Lawrence Bartlett (Sharie), Nanoose Bay, and their children, Shane and Cole. Catherine loved gardening, crafts, bridge, music and choral vocals. She was predeceased by her last husband, Vincent Westland in 2007. Catherine was a people person and made many friends wherever she lived. In mid life she returned to Community College in Brandon to obtain her Diploma in Social Work. She was much appreciated and respected by her younger fellow students. She practised her profession in Brandon and Victoria. Catherine always led her generation and was always raising the bar for all those she knew and loved. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service. Donations in Catherines memory may be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation.
