BROWN: The death of Norman William "Norm" Brown, of Monterey Estates and formerly of Carroll, beloved husband of Connie, dear father to Marilyn and Diane, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, May 7, 2009. Norm was born at Minnewawa, Manitoba on May 10, 1918. As a young lad, Norm worked as a farm laborer until joining the Air Force in 1941, where he became an aero mechanic. In 1943, he was posted to Claresholm Air Base in Alberta, where he met the love of his life, Connie Brown. They were married in Stanley, Alberta on December 24, 1944. They moved to Carroll, Manitoba in 1949, where he farmed with his brother, Wilf for the next twenty-three years. During this time, he played in a band with his brothers, Art and Wilf and also with the Souris Playboys. Norm and Connie sold their farm and moved to Brandon in 1968, where he worked at Eatons until retiring in 1983. Normwas well known for his woodworking. He enjoyed making many projects for the family and friends, which they now cherish. During this time, Norm andConnie enjoyed golfing, camping and following the horse races. One of his greatest pleasures was sitting around the campfires with family and friends, sharing stories and music. In October 1999, Norm and Connie moved to Monterey Estates, where they enjoyed many hours of friendship over coffee, cribbage and community functions. Norm's love of music continued throughout his life. He was well known for fiddle playing, but in later years, he found it hard to play the fiddle and he then switched to the snare drum and continued to play with friends whenever he could. Norm leaves his loving wife, Connie, daughter; Marilyn Williams (Don Jessiman) and children, Michele Williams and Dionne (Bruce Boyko) and their children, Kai and Kali; daughter, Diane (Dell) Doyle and their children; Shawna (Sean) Gustafson, Rowan and Elsie; Slade (Hannah) Doyle, Alexandra, Samantha and Annabelle; Dari (Bill) Murray, Carter and Payton, Paige, MacKenzie and Sydney. A brother, Wilf Brown and a sister, Annie Ardiel also survive. Norm was predeceased by: his parents, William and Emma Brown, brothers, Bert and Art and sister, Myrtle Granger, an infant sister Ethel and his son-in-law, Dale Williams. The Ceremony to Celebrate Norm's Life was held at the Monterey Estates Community Centre, on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Mona Franklin officiated. Interment was in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Urn bearer was grandson, Slade Doyle. Friends who wish, may make a donation in memory of Norm to the Westman Autism Parent's Support Group, c/o 646 23rd Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 1W1.
