PLOWMAN: Merle Isabel Plowman (née Stothart), beloved wife of Albert, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on May 22, 2009. Merle was born in Strathclair, Manitoba and when anyone asked about her age, she always said that she was "39." She was raised in Strathclair where she graduated from grade 12. She was very proud of the fact that she could read and write Latin. Merle worked in the bank and at her fathers General Store and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Legion in Strathclair. Merle, Albert and Rae moved to Brandon in 1964 where she joined the Knox United Church and volunteered for the choir, board and Christmas Cheer Fund. Merle also volunteered at the Valleyview School library for 25 years and she enjoyed playing the organ. Merle is survived by her husband Al Plowman, (of 50 years); daughter-in-law Sheryl Stothart, granddaughter Sharlene (Darryll) Sydor, great grandsons Parker, Braden, Dylan and Cooper, granddaughter Rhonda (Brett) Ward and grandson Tyler Stothart; son Rae (Jo-Ann), granddaughter Rae Lynn and grandson Hunter Plowman. Merle was predeceased by her eldest son Richard James Stothart and by her parents, James Rae and Lou Stothart. A Memorial Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Bob Hunter and Rev. Gordon Stevenson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Sumner, Lorne Collins, Brian ODonohoe, Wayne Plowman, Hant Choy and Henry Hlady. Interment will take place at the Strathclair Cemetery at a later date.
