McALISTER: Evelyn Aylene (née Grant), passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at Fairview Home on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the age of 101 years. Aylene was born in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan on January 30, 1908. She was predeceased by her husband, J.R. (Reid) McAlister, her parents Margaret and Frank Grant, her sister Marjorie and her husband Robert Thomson, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and her brother Kelvin, Toronto, Ontario. She is survived by her sister Wanda L. (Doug) Meadows of Brandon, her daughter Claire (Patrice) Noiret and three granddaughters, Danielle, Dominique and Susanne, as well as three great granddaughters, all of the United Kingdom. In her younger years, she attended school in Belmont, Manitoba, and later attended Wheat City Business College in Brandon. Aylene worked in a law office in Baldur, Manitoba, then worked in the administration office in Eatons Store in Toronto where she met the love of her life, Reid McAlister. They were married September 11th, 1942 in Toronto. In later years, she taught Home Economics to pass on her skills to others. Aylene became the Secretary-Treasurer of the High School District School Board in Thornhill, Ontario, and remained there until her retirement. Aylene and Reid were devoted members of the St. Andrews Scottish Country Dancing Society in Toronto for 30 years. After her husbands death in 1986, she moved to Brandon to be close to her sister Wanda and families. She resided in Parkview Seniors Co-op, and due to health problems, moved to Fairview Home in 1998 where she resided until her passing. The funeral service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on May 21, 2009 with the Rt. Rev. Bishop Jim Njegovan officiating. Eulogy of Aylenes life was given by her niece Sherri Lynn Black. Urn Bearer was Patrice Noiret with interment in the family plot, lawn section at the Brandon Cemetery.
