SIRETT: Lloyd Davidson Sirett, March 7, 1917 - May 17, 2009. Lloyd was born and raised on Maple Grove farm in the Mentmore district. He was the fourth child of Fred and Mabel (Davidson) Sirett. He attended Gordon School for the elementary years and rode bicycle or pony to Franklin for high school. In 1945 he married Irma Hearn from Kelwood and together they took over the family farm from his mother. Here they raised four daughters. During his farming years Lloyd and Irma were very involved in the Mentmore District and numerous agriculture associations. He served on the Gordon Church Board and Manitoba Pool Elevators Board. He also sat on the Federal Farm Credit Appeal board and was chair of the Neepawa Gladstone Co-op board for many years. He was a founding member of the Beautiful Plains Credit Union, member of the Founders Club of the Beautiful Plains Community Foundation and was instrumental in the establishment of the Neepawa and District Drop In Centre. He continued to be an active member of the Neepawa United Church. In 1973 he was invited to join Rotary and continued to enjoy his involvement with Rotary until his death. Lloyd and Irma enjoyed travel and were able to visit many parts of the globe. His first memorable trip was behind the “iron curtain” on an agricultural tour to Russia. They also toured many parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America and the West Indies. Lloyd chose to take an early retirement from farming and together Lloyd and Irma offered their services to CUSO (Canadian University Services Overseas). Their first assignment was in Zambia, Africa. They lived and worked for two years on a farm near Lusaka. They enjoyed this experience so much they offered to take another assignment, this time to Barbados. After their return to Canada they settled into retirement life in Neepawa. After Irma’s death in 1984, Lloyd became very active in the seniors golf club and the seniors curling club. He also spent many hours in his workshop where he handcrafted furniture for his family. In 2003 Lloyd sold his home in Neepawa, and moved into Elks Manor. After a fall in January his health deteriorated and he passed away in Country Meadows Care Home on May 17, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife Irma (1984), daughter Lorna Masch (1999), and infant daughter Mavis (1957). Left to cherish his memory are daughters Joan (Ed) James, Lois (Al) McNiven, and Sally (Don) Howard, son-in-law Peter (Anna) Masch, eight grandchildren and one great grandson. Should friends desire donations in Lloyd’s memory can be made to the Beautiful Plains Community Foundation or the Neepawa United Church.
