WAKEFIELD: Eunice Donaline; beloved wife of the late Donald Wakefield, mother to Donna (Dave) Clifford of Brandon, Janice (Dwight) Mercer of Regina, grandmother to Darren and Dean Clifford and Brian Mercer and great-grandmother to Rylan Smith, passed away peacefully at the Fairview Nursing Home in Brandon on May 25, 2009. Eunice was born in Douglas, Manitoba on February 8, 1931 to George and Annie McQuarrie; the second oldest of three children. She grew up in the Inglow district in Manitoba and attended the Inglow School. In 1948, she moved back to Douglas to work in a local café and this is where she met her future husband, Donald Wakefield. They were married a short time later and started their family in Brandon. Two daughters and a son were born; however, her son Murray passed away at the age of four. Eunice and her family moved to Winnipeg in 1960 with Dons work at Imperial Oil. Eunice was first a homemaker and later worked with several companies in Winnipeg. Eunice and her late husband Don were able to take early retirement in 1987 and first moved to Selkirk for a year, and then to Kelowna, British Columbia for the next 18 years. Eunice and Don returned to Brandon in the fall of 2007 to be closer to family. Don passed away in May 2008. Eunice is survived by her two daughters Donna (Dave) and Janice (Dwight), three grandsons and one great grandson. She is also survived by her younger brother Donald. Eunice was predeceased by her infant son Murray, sister Thelma, and Don, her husband of almost sixty years. The family is grateful for the exceptional care provided to Eunice by the Fairview Nursing Home during the past year. A memorial service was held in Brandon on 28 May 2009 with interment of the ashes at the Rosewood Cemetery. The family extends special thanks to Eunices grandson Dean Clifford for being the urn bearer.
