SMITH: Thomas Harvey Smith passed peacefully surrounded by family at the Riverview Health Centre on June 10 after a hard fought, courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born on September 3, 1931 in Windsor, Ontario. After leaving the air force in the early 1950s he followed the words of his favorite poem Wanderlust heading west to find fame and fortune. He met the love of his life Donna (Cosgrove) early in his journey and together they embarked on a long and happy union. Tom and Donna have five children, Randy (Cheryl) of St. Laurent, Marty (Kim) of Winnipeg, Darcy (Laurie) of Kelowna B.C., Kirby (Connie) of Cloverdale B.C. and the youngest Amber (Gino) Gilberto of Winnipeg. Tom and Donna also have 13 loving grandchildren who will miss their Grandpas sense of humor and fun loving teasing. Tom loved golf, community service and vacationing at Oak Lake, surrounded by family. After many years of living in Melita, Virden and Brandon, Tom and Donna relocated to Winnipeg to enjoy retirement closer to the kids and grandchildren. Memorial service will be Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, reception to follow. Condolences can be sent to dtsmith@mts.net.
