MARTIN: Donald K. Martin, formerly of Hamiota, passed away at Valleyview Care Centre, Brandon, Manitoba, June 3, 2009. Donald was born in Miniota, December 29, 1921, to Elsie and Ernest Martin, second oldest of three brothers Terence, Vincent and a sister Audrey. Donald lived most of his life on the farm in the Isabella district. He had a great love for the country life. After his brother Terence passed away in March 1980 and he had no one to work with him on the farm he decided to sell the farm and with his mother Elsie, retired to the town of Hamiota, Manitoba in 1982. Donald was a very active volunteer in Hamiota and will be remembered for his dedicated work with the recycle program. He was always ready to help with any community project that came along. He was a member of the Hamiota Legion and curled for a few years at the rink. After failing health in 2005 he went to reside in Central Park Lodge now known as Valleyview Care Centre, Brandon. He was predeceased by his brothers Terence in March 1980 and Vincent in December 1980. Mother Elsie in April 1991. Donald is survived by a sister Audrey Collyer of Brandon, nephews Ken (Karen) Collyer of Brandon and Don (Debbie) Collyer Clear Lake, also many great nephews and a great niece. A graveside service was held in Hamiota Cemetery June 6, 2009 with Barbara Rediker D.L.M. officiating and Wimp Sheardown giving the eulogy. Also the Hamiota Legion made a tribute. Campbell’s Funeral Home was in care of arrangements.
