MARTENS: Richard John Martens (Rick) was born in Rivers, Manitoba on August 13, 1952 and passed away suddenly at his home in Winnipeg on June 30, 2009 at the age of 56. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Joann, son Bobby and daughter Nicole of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his mother and stepfather Lena and Elmer Dyck, and his sister, Kathy (Bruce) Friesen (Kristin and Danielle) of Morden, Manitoba. Rick was predeceased by his father, John F. Martens in 1974, his brother Gerald F. Martens in 2003 and his grandparents, Dick and Agatha Fast and Frank and Mary Martens of Rivers. Rick spent most of his working years working with computers for Investor\'s Group in Winnipeg. Due to various health issues in the past few years he was unable to work but was enjoying his time volunteering delivering meals on wheels. He was looking forward to returning to work in the near future. Rick was a sports enthusiast. Hockey, baseball, golf, football all gave him great pleasure. His knowledge of sports trivia was truly amazing. He enjoyed playing baseball for many years, and was a talented backcatcher. Memorial service will be held at the church he grew up in: Grace Mennonite Church, 951 10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m. on July 4, 2009 with burial at Rivers Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
