HARGREAVES: Jason Mark Hargreaves passed away accidentally, near Russell, Manitoba on June 27, 2009. Jason was born April 2, 1987, in Brandon, Manitoba on his Grandpa Roy’s birthday. Jason spent his early years growing up with his family, friends and cousins in the Brandon Hills Community. Early on Jason was overly competitive playing any sport or game and would quite often lose his temper, much to the amusement of all his cousins. Jason attended New Era School and was enrolled in French Immersion. He later attended Neelin High School where his lust for life began to shine, as well as his athletic abilities. Jason not only pushed himself to excel at any sport he played, but also motivated his teammates to be the best that they could be - by leading by example. He led his Spartans to six provincial championships with his confident, but never arrogant demeanor on the court. In his Grade 12 year, after winning the Provincial Volleyball Championships, Jason was awarded the Player Choice Award for outstanding leadership and sportsmanship. This award was voted on by all the players in the tournament and showed how much respect he had among his fellow athletes. Jason also received the Neelin Shield for Involvement for his participation, leadership, and extra-curricular activities. Even several years later, he was still helping longtime coach Don Thomson develop young Spartans when he had spare time. After graduating from Neelin, Jason attended the University of Regina where he played one season of volleyball with the Cougars, before deciding that he would rather devote the majority of his time to having fun with his new friends. He had a home away from home at the U of R. He was looking forward to having the same room – on the same floor, with the same roommates, for his fourth year. He was still very active, playing almost every intramural sport he could when he wasn’t busy singing karaoke at the local student bar. Jason developed many wonderful friendships during his time with us. With his friends and family’s guidance he developed into the wonderful charismatic and outgoing character that we will always remember him as. He will be sadly missed by everyone whose lives he has touched. Jason is survived by: his parents Jim and Nancy; brother Aaron (fiancée Nicole Yanchycki); sister Danielle (special friend Paul Klick) and grandpa Roy Finlay. He also leaves his special girl, Claire Kincaid. Jason is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. He was predeceased by grandparents Harleigh and Pearl Hargreaves and grandmother Eleanor Finlay. The Ceremony to Celebrate Jason’s Life will be held at Central United Church, 327 8th Street on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Carolyn Rushton will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at the Brandon Hills Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family at Central United Church auditorium at 4:00 pm. for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Donations may be made to the Jason Hargreaves Memorial Fund(for a scholarship at Neelin High School), c/o RR #4, Box 17, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 5Y4.
