HAYNES: Leonard (Len) James passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on June 16, 2009 at the age of 95. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Dorothy, son Murray and grandsons Branden, Todd and Ryan Haynes of Langley B.C.; his daughter Bev (Gord) Derouin, Red Deer, AB, granddaughter Michelle (Namir) Dunn of Vancouver, B.C., grandson Marc (Stacy) Derouin and great grandson Jayden of Medicine Hat, A.B. His sister Greta Graham, sisters- in-law Harriet Haynes; Nancy Harrowen plus numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. His father Fredrick and mother Sophronia; brother Clarence and sister Tina Stockdale predeceased him. Leonard was born May 31, 1914 in Sinclair, Manitoba, where he spent his early years before moving to Brandon where he attended school and lived most of his life with the exception of the time he served in the Armed Services during WWII. As a young man Leonard worked at Brockie’s as a Casket and Furniture maker and he decided that he liked the furniture side of the business and later went to work for Voy’s Furniture as an Upholsterer and Furniture Refinisher. In 1962 he struck out on his own and opened Haynes Upholstery in the Massey Building, later building a shop behind their home where he continued to operate successfully until his retirement in 1986. Leonard was an active member at Central United Church and was a Cub Leader in his younger years. He enjoyed their cabin at Clear Lake and spent many happy times with friends and family. Leonard and Dorothy traveled extensively including the British Isles and Europe as well as 16 vacations to Hawaii. A private family ceremony was held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, Saturday, June 20 with Rev. Shannon McCarthy officiating. Interment was at Brandon Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff and Doctors at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for their wonderful care.“Forever in our Hearts”
