HOEMSEN: Peter Erich, July 7, 1929 - July 3, 2009. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Peter Erich Hoemsen on Friday, July 3, 2009. Peter passed away peacefully in his sleep under the care of the wonderful people at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Peter leaves behind his beloved Belle of twenty-seven years. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Maria, brother Verne, and sister Kay. He is survived by siblings Hugo, Margret Silver, and Betty Alex; three sons and two daughters, Ray and Joan, Marcell, Cam and Chuck Sigurdson, Slade and Sharon, and Alicia; four grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by extended family which includes Bob DeMarsh, Dwight and Debbie DeMarsh, Bryan DeMarsh, Doug and Kathy Byers; as well as seven grandsons, two granddaughters, six great-grandsons, and eight great-granddaughters. Peter was born in South Gosfield, Ontario, on July 7, 1929. He worked with heavy equipment and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955. Peter laid many miles of pipeline found throughout Canada. He was involved in the development of the Beaufort Sea in Northern Canada. He was very well known in the industry and because of his skills never retired until seventy-five years of age. Peter loved his work and will be missed by many of his pipeline buddies. He was also involved in The Army Navy Air Force Vets Club, and was past president of ANA Seniors. He was the founder and a longtime member of the IEC. Funeral services were held at McInnis & Holloways Eastside Memorial Chapel, on Thursday, July 9, 2009.
