SMITH: Robert Walter Smith passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Saturday, July 18, 2009. Robert was born on March 7, 1930 in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. He was educated at Green Bluff School. Robert grew up on a farm and farmed until moving to Brandon in 1974. He had four children: William, Evelyn, Brenda and Cecil. Robert went to ACC to study accounting and then worked at Red Oak Inn and then at McKenzie Seeds. He moved to Regina to work for Federated Coop before retiring to Brandon in 1992, to be closer to family and friends. Robert enjoyed curling and playing pool but in his later years became more active in the church choir as well as shuffleboard, dances, and playing cards at the Prairie Oasis. Robert also enjoyed his get togethers for coffee. Robert is predeceased by his parents; brother Bill Smith; brother Cecil Smith; sister; Doreen and her husband Roy Hodgson; brothers-in-law John McMurachy, Harry Winstone, and Stan Thompson. He is also predeceased by nieces and nephews: Margaret, John, Jim, Sharon, and Gerry McMurachy; great nephews Freddie Winstone, Scott and David McMurachy. Robert is survived by his son Bill (Lorainne) Smith; daughters Evelyn (Peter) Gauthier, Brenda (Mike) Britton; son Cecil Smith; grandchildren: Dale Smith, Paige Kippen and Cody Britton; sisters: Gladys McMurachy, Gwen Winstone, Ethel (Vern) Griswold and Vera Thompson. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Earl Ricalton of McDiarmid Drive Alliance will officiate. A Graveside Service will be held at Shoal Lake Cemetery, Shoal Lake, Manitoba at 3:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 1-613-10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G8 or to the United Way of Brandon, #201-1011 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 0L5. Robert's family would like to thank Pastor Earl Ricalton for coming to the hospital to pray and support Robert and his loved ones. They would also like to thank thewonderful nurses on the 4th floor, ICU, Brandon RHA, for their caring and compassion. Robert and his loved ones could not have made it through his passing without the love and diligence of Ethel and Vern Griswold.
