RANSOM: Family and friends of Janice Faye Ransom mourn her sudden passing on July 15th, 2009. Janice was born May 26th, 1944, a most welcomed and loved only child of Florence and George McMillan. She was raised on the farm in the Hernfield district, south of Waskada and enjoyed her childhood playing with neighbours and cousins. She had a great love of horses and dogs. She attended Hernefield School from grades one to eight and graduated from Waskada high school. Jan then worked in the Royal Bank in Melita. In 1963, she married Scott Gervin and they had three children; Amy, Alton and Erin. Upon the dissolution of the marriage, Jan and the kids moved to Brandon where she worked for Manitoba Water Services and made life long friends. In May, 1991 Jan married Don Ransom and moved to Boissevain forming a blended family with Don and his son Gordon. Jan was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Preceptor Iota Sorority holding several offices. Jan was always interested in new things and started quilting. She did beautiful work becoming involved in quilting groups. She was a very creative decorator and her home always echoed the season and be it Thanksgiving Christmas or Easter, she had the perfect accessories. However, it was her ability to whip up Hallowe'en costumes that impressed the grandkids. Grandma always had just the right thing. Jan will best be remembered for her terrific sense of humour. It was always a great time when she was sharing one of her stories. Left to mourn is her loving husband Don,children Amy Conner (Ross), Alton Gervin (Lori), Erin Thomas (Jim), and step-son Gordon Ransom, and ten grandchildren; Ainsley, Alec and Jack Conner, Kara, George and Krista Gervin, Caleb and Avery Thomas and Kinsley and Sydney Ransom, and her aunts, uncle and many cousins. Jan was predeceased by her parents Florence and George McMillan. Jan was laid to rest atop a beautiful hill in Old Deloraine Cemetery. Rev. John Oldenkamp officiated at the interment and the memorial service at Bossevain United Church. Donations in memory of Jan may be sent to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Fund or to a charity of your choice. “In the quiet curve of evening, in the sinking of the days,in the silky void of darkness, you are there. In the lapses of my breathing, in the space between my ways,in the crater carved by sadness, you are there”
