BAILLIE: Ronald Allan Baillie, 1940 - Aug. 5, 2009. Peacefully in Bridgewater (Nova Scotia) Hospital after a short, courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by: Wife Arlene; Sisters: Maureen Ramage (Wayne) and Janice Palmer (Doug) of Manitoba; Family: Andrea (Dave Feschuk) of Ontario, Mark (Melanie Le Blanc) of Ontario, Darcy (Phil Nyren) of British Columbia, Arla Day (Dan Harrison) of Nova Scotia, Brad Day (Shelley) of Manitoba; Grandchildren: Oscar, Ariel, Tristan, Will, Chelsea; Nieces: Cheryl Dousselaere (Gerry), Stacey Richardson (Boyd); Nephew: Curtis Ramage (Tracy); Great nieces and nephew: Stephanie, Alyssa, Garet, Courtney, Kyle; his beloved Terriers: Piper and Celtie. Ron was born in Hamiota, Manitoba, and spent most of his life in Manitoba (except for 2 years teaching in Germany with DND) until moving to Nova Scotia in 2002. Ron's 35-year teaching career began in Russell and continued at Knowles (Winnipeg). From there he went to St. James School Division. At John Taylor Collegiate and Silver Heights Collegiate he taught English and the IB program. He was involved with various school activities, but it was the success with his Reach for the Top teams that was acknowledged across Canada. Ron loved sports as a spectator, a coach, and a participant: curling, golf, skiing, cycling, basketball, baseball, and senior softball. Ron's passion was the bagpipes, which he learned later in life, and early arrivals at Silver Heights could hear the skirl of the pipes coming from the music room as Ron practised before classes. He'd been a member of the Khartum Shrine Pipes & Drums, the Pipes & Drums of Manitoba, and the ANAF Assiniboia Unit 283 before moving to Nova Scotia, where he became involved in the formation of the South Shore Pipes and Drums. Ron was initiated into Masonry at the Assiniboine Lodge No. 114, in 1982. The next year he waspassed to the Fellowcraft Degree, and the Master Mason Degree. Ron joined the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite in 1985. He joined the A.A.O.N.M.S. (Shriners-Khartum Temple) in 1986, and was appointed to the Divan in 1991. On moving to Nova Scotia, Ron was affiliated with Acacia Lodge in Bridgewater and then with Unity Lodge in Lunenburg. Ron's other interests included reading, travel and hosting dinner parties organized around events such as the Kentucky Derby, March Madness, the Super Bowl, the Grey Cup, and Robbie Burns Day. Cremation has taken place. A Remembrance Gathering will be held at Bridgewater Legion on Saturday, August 15, 2:00-4:00 p.m. A Memorial Service and Interment will take place in Elkhorn, Manitoba, on September 5 at 2:00 p.m. In Ron's memory, if one wishes, he has asked that a donation be made to: South Shore Pipes & Drums, c/o P.
