SMITH: Ralph William (Smitty) August 8, 1922 - July 26, 2009. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Ralph, beloved husband of Eva Howard of Brandon on July 26, 2009 in Palliative Care at the Assiniboine Centre from a stroke suffered July 2, 2008. Ralph was born on the family farm in the Summerberry District of Saskatchewan and attended Rosadale and Summerberry High School. At the age of 18 years he joined the Air Force and became an aircraft mechanic with postings in Dauphin and Souris before going overseas. After the war he returned to Summerberry where he took up farming and showing his prize cattle at shows around the country. In later years he moved to surrey, B.C. where he spent his time building a couple of houses and going to flea markets which he enjoyed doing. Ralph moved to Brandon in 1980 and spent the next 29 years here. Ralph was predeceased by his parents, sister Irene and brother Geordie. He is survived by his wife Eva of 27 years, stepsons Donald (Sally) and David (Marion), grandchildren Grant, Katrina, Stephen, Carla and Allison. He is also survived by sister Dorothy Chatterson and sister-in-law Evelyn Smith, both of Wolsely, Saskatchewan. There are also several cousins, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on August 9, 2009 at the Summerberry Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with other family members.
