CORRIGAN: Samuel Walter Corrigan passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the age of 69 years. Samuel was born on October 13, 1939 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He received his education at Cambridge University and worked as a Professor of Native Studies and the Brandon University. Samuel was a loyal Liberal and enjoyed travelling extensively throughout Canada and the USA. He often visited New Mexico and BC in search of Native American literature at bookstores. He loved his beloved dog “Whisky” as well as his Tiki and Totem, his Black Labs. His passion was his journal – Canadian Journal of Native Studies. Samuel is survived by his son Elwood Episkenew, grandchildren Justin L. Wilson (Michelle), Natasha L. Wilson (John), Whitney M. Cote, Delani S. Cote and Daidre Wilson, great-grandchildren Jenna Wilson, Sadie Wilson, Avery Huntinghawk, (Maiingan) and numerous close friends that Sam knew very well. He was predeceased by his father Cecil Edwin Corrigan, mother Viola, brother Richard “Dick” Corrigan and favorite uncle Cameron Corrigan. The Memorial Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
