RYZ: Olive (Olga) Ryz (née Symchysn) of Fairview Personal Care Home passed away at her residence, with family by her side, on August 06, 2009. Olive was born on March 12, 1925 in Dauphin, Manitoba. She was the eldest of six sisters and four brothers. She was a twin (her twin brother died at birth). Olives education was cut short due to having to help out on the family farm. Olive leaves to mourn her children: Millie Ernest, Elgin, Bill, Vincent, Margaret, Richard and Alfred. She was predeceased by her son, Ralph. Olive worked at the Maples caring for foster children and was very proud of that. Some of the children even called her Mom throughout her life. She was also employed at the Brandon General Hospital for over 25 years. Olive married in early in life (Jake, deceased). She loved the country life and had a great love and connection with the animals. She always put others first, especially her children. She worried about their well being. Olive loved to travel, cook and sew. She was a very strong spiritual person. The Funeral Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on August 11, 2009 with Fr. Dominic Yuen of St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were her sons, Elgin, Bill, Vincent, brothers-in-law Frank Petry, Bert Harluck and friend, Rod Bart. Donations in memory of Olive may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2W8 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 727B 10th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4G7.
