WOTTON: Kenneth Arthur passed away in Vancouver, BC on Friday, August 14, 2009. Ken was born in Foxwarren, Manitoba on December 9, 1925, the only son to Arthur and Ester Wotton. He grew up in Foxwarren, where he attended school. Ken enjoyed hockey and baseball, playing on local teams. He served in the Canadian Army in the Second World War. Ken married his love, Catherine Elizabeth Robertson in 1947 and moved to Birtle, Manitoba in 1951. There he began working with the Manitoba Telephone Systems in 1951, travelling to many rural areas and installing the first phones. While in Birtle, he was active with hockey, as his 3 sons also played. The family moved to Deloraine in 1965, where Ken was District man for that area. Ken built a house in Deloraine in 1967 and moved a building to Lake Metigoshe and turned it into a cottage that was much enjoyed by the family. Ken retired in 1987 from MTS after 35 years and continued living in Deloraine. He was an avid sportsman enjoying curling, golf and was also the President of the Curling and Golf Club for many years. Ken suffered a stroke in 1990 and worked hard to rehabilitate his body. He was inspirational to his family and friends as his progress surpassed his doctors prognosis. Ken continued to enjoy the sports he loved and was proud of the fact that he shot a hole-in-one golfing with just one arm. In 2000, Ken and Cathy moved from the Centennial Apartments to Riverheights Terrace in Brandon, as driving to doctor appointments to Brandon became difficult. Riverheights became their home for 5 1/2 years. They enjoyed meeting new friends and having old friends and family visit. In the summer of 2006, Ken and Cathy moved to Vancouver, BC to live with their youngest son, Neil. They enjoyed the milder winters. The youngest of their grandchildren was born in August of 2007 and they have enjoyed being a part of her daily life. They also became grandparents to an 85 pound Doberman named Mac, who never left Kens side. Kens health failed as he suffered a heart attack and in 2009 he moved into Brock Farni Pavillion in Vancouver, BC. He was predecased by parents: Arthur and Ester Wotton, his sister, Ella Mae and her husband Elmor. Kens memory lives on with his wife of 62 years, Cathy; sons, Doug (wife Liz, daughters Erika and husband Marty Wainwright, and baby Robson, the great-grandson, Ken lived long enough to meet through pictures); Krista (husband Andrew Lewthwaite; and Danielle; Myles (wife Lori, daughters, Janel, Danica and son Riley), Ward, Neil (wife Kerensa, daughter, Mya). He will also be remembered by Kens sisters: Bertha Minish and husband Orville, Laura Hewlko and husband Frank, and also by his sisters-in-law, Margaret Howard, Pat Robertson, Karen Marshall (husband Bob), brother-in-law Peter Robertson (wife Marie), and his nieces and nephews. Ken will be laid to rest in Foxwarren, Manitoba in October 2009.
