POTTER (Rusk): Marion Grace (nee Shaw) died August 17, 2009 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. She was born to William and Madge Shaw in Cabri, Saskatchewan 84 years ago, the eldest of fivechildren. Mom came from modest beginnings growing up on a prairie farm in the 20's/30's and her resourcefulness continued over her entire life. She worked in the Cabri Hospital as a Nurse's Aide prior to marrying Murray Rusk in 1948. They had four children. Murray died in 1964 leaving Mom with four young children to care for as this is where her modest beginnings served her well. She met her second life partner Howard Potter and they were married in 1968 spending 40 years together as constant companions. They moved to B.C. in 1974, where they worked together for the B.C. government. They spent nine years caring for foster children and then returned to Brandon in 1982. They purchased and lived in various revenue properties and then retired in 2004 to live quietly in Meadowlark Trailer Court. This was a place they had talked about moving to for year's prior and loved sitting on their covered deck chatting with the seasonal campers. Mom enjoyed knitting dish cloths, making her signature rabbit ear oven mitts, baking a variety of cookies which were truly enjoyed by everyone and recycled even before it was in vogue. They belonged to the Wheat King Booster Club in the 70's and enjoyed dancing up a storm; these evenings would often become a family event. Mom enjoyed family camping vacations as well as summers at the cottage at Lake Metigoshe. Mom was a caregiver, loved her family, and was there to support us and always the protector right to the end. She will be forever remembered and never forgotten by her children; Norman (Gail) Rusk, Cheryle (Danny) Roscoe, Grant (Patti) Rusk, Janet (Tim) Hawley, Bruce (Susan) Potter, Diane (Richard) Rounds, in addition to 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sister Audrey (Ted) Bingham and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by Howard Potter her husband of 40 years on May 7, 2009, Murray Rusk her husband of 16 years, her parents William & Madge Shaw, brothers Clayton, Cliff and Cam Shaw. As per Marion's wishes a private family Ceremony to Celebrate her life was held at Memories Chapel. Interment followed at the Old Deloraine Cemetery, Deloraine, Manitoba. Thank you doesn't seem enough for the awesome care and compassion shown to Mom and her family by the doctors, nurses and staff of BRHC during her lengthy stay. A special thank you goes out to her family doctor Joanne Maier. As well as appreciation for all the visits made by family friends. Donations in memory of Marion can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 9Z9. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. "She was a beautiful woman, with beautiful hair! A wonderful Wife, Mom, Grandmother and fine role model for all in our family, one to try to exemplify our lives by; as she did so much for the family she so loved. Bye for now Mom."
