Darwyn was first diagnosed with cancer in 2004. He fought this battle with determination, courage and humor. Darwyn’s greatest inspiration for fighting his cancer was his children. Darwyn was extremely proud to see Kayla turn 18 and graduate from high school this year. Darwyn’s spirited personality and creativity also helped him cope with his illness. Darwyn’s passion and skill for drawing kept him active. Over the years he created many of his own books and was proud to share his artwork with family and friends. Darwyn also found comfort in writing about his personal experience with cancer in his book "Surviving Cancer and Other Rants". Filled with his reflections and lessons on life and living with cancer, the book was recognized in a national competition and awarded 1st prize. Darwyn’s story has been read far and wide and continues to humor, inspire and support individuals and families living with cancer. He always reminded us of the importance of family, friendship, love and forgiveness. Darwyn liked to say that we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously and we should always find something to laugh at everyday.
