SIMMERSON: R. George Simmerson of Strathclair, Manitoba passed away at the Morley House Personal Care Home in Shoal Lake on August 18, 2009 at the age of 81, after a lengthy illness. George was born in Viking, Alberta on May 14, 1928, one of ten children born to Mary and Art Simmerson. George is survived by his wife Evelyn. They were married for over 60 years. He is also survived by two sons, Bob and partner Linda of Brandon, and Ron and wife Val and granddaughters Dawn and Megan of Calgary, Alberta. Four sisters Gladys Pollard and family, Courtney, BC, Kathy (Don) Dale and family, Wainwright, Alberta, Alice (Merv) Young and family, Devon, Alberta, Vera (Henry) Guldbrandson and family, Rimby, Alberta, sisters-in-law Gladys Simmerson and family, Endersby, BC, Mildred Kamula, Strathclair, Manitoba and Alma (Gene) Draves and family, Lloydminster, Alberta. George was predeceased by his parents Mary and Art Simmerson, sisters, Lorna Pollard and Ruth (Percy) Percinal, and brothers Edward Simmerson, Joe Simmerson, and Norman (Bessie) Simmerson. George was a truck driver in Wainwright, Alberta when he met Evelyn. They were married at Wainwright and moved to Brandon to live and work. Over the years in Brandon he worked for Blackwood Beverages (7-Up company), Manco Dairies and Pic-A-Dilly Trailers. George was a hard worker and always had a good sense of humour. Many good times were had at their cabin at Thomas Lake, which they had for over 30 years. He loved to golf and to go fishing and always was ready for a game of cards. In his retirement years, many hours were spent playing cards with the gang at Strathclair Community Center. A graveside service was held at the Strathclair Municipal Cemetery on August 22, 2009.George will be sadly missed by all.
